Weighted Poi Grips

Tossing and throwing poi is nothing new, but the development of weighted grips has enabled poi spinners to enhance their tossing, allowing for the development of cool new tricks and contact poi moves.

The base of the weighted grip is approximately 2 in. long, with a 1/4 in. eyebolt used for attaching a quicklink (with a minimum 3/16 in. opening), which then attaches to your chain. Flamma Aeterna Weighted Grips are aerodynamically superior to "T" shape grips and rings; the grip is reasonably narrow, cylndrical, and flies straight when released.

Flamma Aeterna Weighted Grips take basic weighted handles a step further, and allow you to adjust the weight by adding or removing washers. The weight can be "dialed in" until it is perfect for you. Foam discs help keep washers from shifting and help to reduce impact noise as well.

To adjust the weight, remove the vinyl cap by pulling the eyebolt (a simultaneous twist to the right can also help), then use pliers to remove the acorn nut. Add or remove washers as you will, and reverse the steps to reassemble Be sure to regularly check the acorn for tightness.

The attachment hardware/eye hole metal is too thick to attach to the quick links....this makes it impossible to quickly change from my leather grips to these during performances. If I use one of your heavy duty split rings, it increases the length of my chain just enough to throw me off on certain "close to my body or face" moves. The shape is nice, easy to grip, a bit slick though, especially when sweating and trying to catch. New Addendum posted on Oct 9, 2008: Matthew read my review and contacted me right away; there was a mistake in the shipping dept and a pair of larger quick links were supposed to have been included. He got those out to me right away and they fit perfectly! These are really fun to play with, the ability to modify the weight to balance with my poi is very nice. Still a bit slick when sweating (who sweats when spinning fire? :) ), but that's not a huge deal. Thanks muchly for your personal attention Matthew, as always. -Pan

GREAT idea.....needs a bit of work, though. can we figure out a way to not have them spin so "clunky" i.e. not smooth?
