Before there was MoonBlaze, there was MoonBlaze Alpha. MoonBlaze Alpha poi attachments are made by braiding wick material into a rectangular prism, giving it much the same weight, shape, and feel of Cathedral wicks. The sturdy MoonBlaze attachments do not flex when spun, as Cathedrals do, which allows them to retain more fuel during spin-off,and also have a long burn duration due to their more rigid structure. However, Alpha heads have a flame size more equivalent to that of Cathedrals than standard MoonBlaze due, as Alpha heads have more surface area.
Due to the style in which MoonBlaze Alpha Fire Poi Heads are constructed, it is also easier to use a wider variety of attachments than our standard Duo-Fold Cathedral Fire Poi Heads:
- Secondary Ring: For those wanting the option of attaching more poi heads (for double poi or triple poi), rings are installed on both the top and bottom of the head
- Secondary Swivel: Similar to the Secondary Ring option, but one end has a ball-bearing swivel and the other has a ring.
- Primary Swivel: A ball-bearing swivel is installed as the primary attachment, instead of a ring. This is a very common choice for technical fire poi dancers.
- Hidden Sleeve: The cable sleeve that normally secures the cable at the top of the head can be placed internally, instead. This is a common option for those doing a lot of wraps with their fire poi, as the sleeve can bother skin, or who simply want to make their poi look a little more sleek.
MoonBlaze Alpha are the conceptual predecessors of the MoonBlaze series of wicks, as well as our Balefire and Coup de Soleil custom wicks.
MoonBlaze heads are not suggested for maneuvers that involve repeated kicking.
MoonBlaze Alpha Fire Poi Heads are approximately 2.25 inches in width. The wick height (just the KEVLAR(R) material), as well as the height with the standard attachment, can be derived from the following list:
